Trade Missions and Delegations: Opportunities for Exporters
Tuesday, October 6, 2026
Two significant trade missions are bookending this week — one just completed, one launching in days — giving exporters in North America concrete near-term opportunities.
Canada Sends 300 Delegates to India (Oct. 12–17)
The largest Canadian trade delegation of 2026 departs for India next week. Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu is leading approximately 300 business delegates to Mumbai and Bengaluru from October 12 to 17, targeting sectors including critical minerals, clean technologies, agri-food, ICT, life sciences, aerospace, and forestry.
The mission runs in parallel with active Canada-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) negotiations — the latest round began October 5 in Ottawa — with both governments targeting a deal by year-end 2026. If concluded, CEPA would support Canada's goal of doubling bilateral trade to CAD $70 billion (≈ USD $50 billion) by 2030, up from the current CAD $30 billion. Canadian SMEs were the priority applicants, with no participation fee charged by the government (delegates cover their own travel costs).
USDA Ghana Agribusiness Mission Wraps Up (Sept. 22–25)
The USDA Foreign Agricultural Service completed a trade mission to Accra, Ghana from September 22–25, connecting U.S. exporters of poultry, beef, dairy, grains, seafood, and prepared foods with qualified West African buyers. U.S. agricultural exports to Ghana reached $175 million in 2025, with poultry and prepared foods leading the way. The mission was part of USDA's six-destination 2026 lineup designed to expand and diversify global markets for U.S. agriculture.
Next Up: USDA Vietnam Mission (November 2026)
U.S. agricultural exporters should note the upcoming Vietnam trade mission in November 2026 — the final stop on USDA's 2026 calendar — targeting specialty cheeses, meats, peaches, and nectarines in one of Southeast Asia's fastest-growing import markets.
What This Means
For Canadian exporters, the India mission is the most time-sensitive opening of the year. With CEPA talks accelerating and a 300-member delegation creating immediate buyer connections across six sectors, companies not yet in the Indian market should engage Canada's Trade Commissioner Service now to position for the next mission cycle. For U.S. agricultural exporters, the Ghana mission signals growing U.S. focus on West Africa as a diversification market — and Vietnam in November offers a follow-on opportunity before year-end.
