Venture Capital and Private Equity: Latest Deals and Funding Rounds

October 20, 2026 | ATN Trade & Finance

October has produced a string of nine- and ten-figure funding rounds across AI infrastructure, fintech, quantum computing, and energy — with a single fintech company crossing the $60 billion valuation threshold and chip designers continuing to pull institutional capital at scale.

Ramp: $1.85 Billion at a $60 Billion Valuation

The largest pure financing of the month belongs to Ramp, the AI-powered corporate spend management platform, which raised $1.85 billion on October 15 led by Dragoneer Investment Group and Thrive Capital. The round values the company at approximately $60 billion pre-money — one of the highest private fintech valuations on record. Ramp has positioned itself at the intersection of financial software and AI automation, and the capital is expected to fund continued product expansion into areas like accounts payable and procurement intelligence.

Tenstorrent: $1.5 Billion for AI Chips

On October 19, AI chip designer Tenstorrent closed a $1.5 billion round led by Trace Capital and Innovation X, with participation from Morgan Stanley, ARK Invest, and Fidelity, at a reported valuation of $6.2 billion. The company designs AI processors and complete server systems as an alternative to NVIDIA hardware, positioning itself in a market where hyperscaler demand for custom silicon is intensifying. The round follows a pattern of large capital raises across the AI chip supply chain as buyers seek to diversify away from a single dominant supplier.

Modal Labs: $750 Million for Cloud AI Infrastructure

Cloud infrastructure startup Modal Labs raised $750 million on October 14, targeting developers who need on-demand compute for AI workloads. The company allows engineers to run code in the cloud with GPU access on a per-second billing model — a direct play on the growth in AI model development and inference workloads that require flexible, high-throughput compute.

TypeSafe AI: $870 Million at $7.5 Billion

During the week of October 3–9, TypeSafe AI (San Francisco) raised $870 million in new funding at a reported $7.5 billion valuation (per Bloomberg), with Andreessen Horowitz as the largest investor and Sequoia participating. The company is building the Jev AI model. The valuation was attributed to reporting rather than a company announcement.

Oratomic: $475 Million for Fault-Tolerant Quantum

Quantum computing startup Oratomic (Pasadena) closed a $475 million round backed by Arch Venture Partners, Spark Capital, Khosla Ventures, Index Ventures, General Catalyst, and Bezos Expeditions. The raise follows a $300 million round in July, bringing total capital to over $775 million — reflecting sustained investor conviction that fault-tolerant quantum systems are approaching commercial viability.

Fintech: Ledgebrook, Valon, Homeward, Spiko

The week of October 3–9 also brought a cluster of fintech rounds. Ledgebrook (Boston) raised $200 million in equity from Allianz X and Rockefeller Capital Management for its AI-powered specialty insurance platform, bringing total capital to approximately $315 million. Valon Technologies closed a $150 million Series D at a $2.3 billion valuation led by Ribbit Capital, with Andreessen Horowitz participating — targeting regulated-finance software. Homeward raised $450 million ($120 million equity + $330 million asset-backed debt) for its home financing platform. London-based Spiko, which offers tokenized cash funds, raised a $90 million Series B led by NEA.

Energy and Defense: Voltus, Type One, Axiom

Beyond AI and fintech, significant capital is flowing into physical infrastructure. Voltus (San Francisco) raised a $225 million Series D from Generation Investment Management, Activate Capital, and Vitol for its distributed energy and grid flexibility platform. Type One Energy (Knoxville) closed a $200 million Series B from Breakthrough Energy Ventures and Clutterbuck Capital for fusion energy development. Axiom Solutions International (Austin) received a $2 billion strategic investment from General Catalyst and Koch Equity after being spun out from Flex, at an initial enterprise value of $37.5 billion, with a planned public listing — the deal reflects growing investor appetite for cloud and power infrastructure tied to AI data center buildout.

What this means: October's funding landscape breaks into two clear clusters. The first is AI — not just foundation models, but the full stack: chips (Tenstorrent), cloud compute (Modal), model builders (TypeSafe), and enterprise applications (Ramp). The second is physical infrastructure: power and grid flexibility (Voltus), fusion (Type One), quantum (Oratomic), and defense/manufacturing (Axiom). In a market where public technology multiples are compressing under rising yields, private capital is still writing large checks — but increasingly for companies with near-term revenue or a hard infrastructure moat, not speculative growth alone.
