Trade Missions and Delegations: Opportunities for Exporters
October 13, 2026 | ATN Trade & Finance
Two government-led export delegations are on the ground this week, a USDA agribusiness mission to Vietnam is coming in November, and the US Commerce Department's trade mission schedule remains open for registration. Here is what exporters need to know.
Team Canada in India: Happening Now
The Team Canada Trade Mission to India is running October 12–17 in Mumbai and Bengaluru, led by Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu. Priority sectors include aerospace and space, clean technologies, ICT, life sciences, forestry and wood products, and agri-food. The mission is designed for Canadian SMEs seeking market entry in India — one of the priority growth markets in Canada's Indo-Pacific Strategy. Registration for B2B meetings closed August 9; general delegation registration closed August 30. Companies not participating this week should note that accepted SMEs could access funding through the CanExport GAC-Led Delegations program — file this away for the next cycle. Contact tctm.mcec.ind@international.gc.ca for information on future missions.
A parallel SoCal Canadian Black Tech Express delegation (October 12–15, Southern California) ran concurrently for Canadian tech exporters from diverse backgrounds, focused on the US West Coast technology market. Registration for that mission also closed.
USDA Vietnam Agribusiness Mission: November 2026
The next open opportunity on the US government's calendar is the USDA Agribusiness Trade Mission to Vietnam, scheduled for November 2026. It is the last of six USDA-led missions this year — previous destinations were Indonesia (February), the Philippines (April), Turkey (May), Australia and New Zealand (August), and Saudi Arabia (September). Vietnam missions have historically spotlighted specialty cheese, processed meats, and tree fruits including peaches and nectarines. US agricultural exporters seeking in-market introductions and government-facilitated B2B meetings should contact the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service directly at fas.usda.gov/topics/trade-missions to confirm application status and deadlines.
US Commerce Department: Ongoing Schedule
The US Department of Commerce International Trade Administration runs year-round industry trade missions led by sector specialists, with in-country commercial staff at US embassies organizing pre-screened one-on-one meetings, networking sessions, and market briefings. The 2026 mission schedule is updated continuously at trade.gov/trade-missions-schedule. Exporters new to trade missions can check eligibility requirements at trade.gov/determine-cs-eligibility.
Planning Ahead
For exporters interested in Canada's upcoming trade missions for 2027, the Government of Canada's Trade Commissioner Service publishes the CanExport GAC-Led Delegations calendar at tradecommissioner.gc.ca. Applications for funding typically open six to eight weeks before delegation registration closes — the India mission funding window ran August 10 to September 25, 2026 — so monitoring the calendar is the key to not missing the intake.
What this means for exporters: The best near-term window for US agribusiness exporters is the Vietnam mission in November. Canadian exporters in tech, clean energy, or life sciences should bookmark the Trade Commissioner Service calendar now for 2027 missions — registration windows move faster than most companies expect. In a year when bilateral trade tensions have narrowed some traditional lanes, government-facilitated missions remain one of the lower-cost ways to open doors in markets where the political relationship is constructive.
