Mergers and Acquisitions Update: The Latest Deals and What They Mean

October 13, 2026 | ATN Trade & Finance

The week ending October 10 produced more than $50 billion in announced deal value across industrial software, logistics, healthcare, and private capital. Deals announced today add to the count. Here are the moves worth tracking.

Schneider Electric Acquires PTC — $23.7 Billion

The largest deal of the week is Schneider Electric's $23.7 billion acquisition of PTC, the Boston-based industrial software company. PTC's platform — which includes Windchill (product lifecycle management) and ThingWorx (industrial IoT) — gives Schneider a full-stack industrial automation and digitization suite. The deal consolidates two companies that have been deeply intertwined since their 2020 integration partnership. For industrial manufacturers, particularly those in aerospace, automotive, and process industries, this signals continued consolidation at the software layer of the factory floor.

C.H. Robinson Acquires RXO — $5.8 Billion

C.H. Robinson is buying RXO, the tech-enabled freight brokerage that was spun out of XPO in 2022, for an implied enterprise value of $5.8 billion. The deal reunites two of North America's largest truck brokerage networks. RXO brought roughly $5 billion in annual revenue and a carrier network that complements Robinson's existing capacity. For shippers, the combined entity becomes the dominant force in spot and contract truckload brokerage — market concentration that will likely draw regulatory review.

SpaceX Acquires 800 MHz Spectrum from Grain — ~$8 Billion

SpaceX agreed to acquire spectrum assets in the 800 MHz band from Grain Communications for an estimated $8 billion — one of the largest spectrum transactions in years. Low-band 800 MHz spectrum is valued for its building penetration and long-range coverage, making it critical infrastructure for the Starlink direct-to-cell service SpaceX is rolling out. The deal, reported October 9, shifts meaningful wireless spectrum from a small regional carrier to the country's most aggressively expanding satellite network.

BlackRock and Humana Form Senior Care JV

BlackRock and Humana announced a joint venture to operate the nearly 150 CenterWell Senior Primary Care clinics currently owned by Humana, with BlackRock holding a majority interest and the venture expected to close in Q4 2026. The structure lets Humana monetize real-estate and operational capital tied up in brick-and-mortar care delivery while retaining a care relationship with its Medicare Advantage members. It continues a broader pattern of asset managers moving into healthcare infrastructure.

IonQ Acquires Elisity for Up to $1.3 Billion

IonQ — the publicly traded quantum computing company — agreed October 12 to acquire Elisity, a zero-trust cybersecurity firm, in an all-share deal valued at up to $1.3 billion including a $150 million earnout. The pairing is unconventional: IonQ is acquiring a classical cybersecurity company rather than a quantum-adjacent one. Management has framed it as building revenue while the quantum hardware roadmap matures — a pragmatic pivot that signals the standalone quantum computing business model still needs time.

Workday Acquires C1.ai

Workday announced the acquisition of C1.ai on October 13; financial terms were not disclosed. C1.ai develops agentic AI tools for enterprise HR and finance workflows — the core markets Workday serves. The acquisition adds autonomous workflow automation to Workday's platform at a moment when every major enterprise software vendor is racing to embed AI agents into their product stack.

What this means for markets: Deal volume remains healthy despite elevated rates — the Schneider/PTC transaction in particular shows that strategic acquirers are willing to pay premium multiples for industrial software assets. The healthcare and logistics deals reflect ongoing consolidation in sectors where scale drives pricing power. IonQ's acquisition of a classical software company is the most telling: even companies built around next-generation technology are buying near-term revenue to stay viable.
